The concept is simple, a photograph a day for an entire year. Why? I see this as a way to work on my photography, tell my story in a creative way, and keep my sanity with something that'll be constant and unchanging for 2012.

I'll be posting "sparks" at the beginning of each month which will be categories of photo taking, or aspects of photo taking that I can work on; things that'll spark ideas for each month's photography.

So here it is, photography in my life, of my life, about my life. Enjoy! <3

Today was Matt's farewell. I have this love/hate relationship with missionary farewells... I love them because I know it's good for that boy to go on his mission and grow up and serve the Lord. But I hate them because I miss those boys... Anyway, Matt is Zoe's boyfriend and this was a very good preview of how it's going to be when Joe leaves this summer.

This was the support group who all travels from Logan to Layton to see him off.

This was Matt and I. The very last time I got to see him... Good luck, Matt! You'll be an amazing missionary....

I went out with Shelby, Zoe & Becca tonight. It was way good to spend some time with them, but because of it I didn't have time to shoot anything. So I just edited some more photos from the mini-shoot we did in the canyon on Wednesday. This was my favorite of what I worked on...

[47/366]

So today I'm going to be lazy and not really post any photographs that I took. But I saw this photo of a tattoo yesterday and I just have to post it. It is the most lovely thing I've ever seen.

Now, don't get me wrong.. I was brought up in a family where tattoos aren't acceptable. I am mormon and we don't believe in tattooing our bodies. But I have a unhealthy obsession with them. Haha. I can't get them, but if I did I know EXACTLY what I would do. And it's not like I would cover all of my skin in permanent ink. Every single tattoo would mean something to me. Sooo, that's what I'm going to ramble about today. (:

First off, I would get this map tattooed on my back/shoulder area. Traveling and foreign cultures are a big part of who I am and what I'm interested in. Every place I went to, I would get a little dot or one of these little guys (*) on the map. And then maybe have a list going down my back of all of those places in the order I visited them in.

Second, I'd want some sort of matching tattoo with my husband. Either his name in cursive going up my ring finger and mine on his, or the date of the day we got married... Something like that to tribute the love of my life.

Third, a music note or curvy, flowing music staff on my foot/ankle area. Music is a huge part of my life and I would want that evident on my body.

And last, I would want a wrist tattoo that reminded me of Christ. I was thinking a circle on the wrist to represent the nails He hung from when He was resurrected with a cursive "Remember" or my favorite scripture about his life/resurrection going through the circle. This tattoo isn't really planned well though, I'd have to make sure it would look good and plan it a little better....

Anyway, that's it. Comment with your thoughts or your ideas of tattoos that you want or have seen. Have a beautiful day! <3

Feeling super artsy today. I took my roommates up to the Second Dam again, but at night this time. It was super creepy and it turned out to produce some really cool shots. This is one of the first ones I edited and I'm way excited to do more!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Joe came up and took me to dinner, gave me beautiful roses and a gold locket necklace that is gorgeous. And I gave him a giant, stupid, stuffed bear. I'm a super great girlfriend..

So no, I didn't go shoot anything today. Instead I'm just posting a cheesy photograph of me and my valentine. <3

I love having a roommate who geeks as hard as I do when it comes to photography.. I took Lizz shooting with me today and she showed me a killer spot. It's called the Second Dam in the Logan Canyon and it is beautiful.. Everything was so dead, but so lovely. Such a fantastic combination for shooting... It made me realize how much I miss nature and landscape shooting. Definitely want to do more soon. (:

I tried to focus each photograph into three categories..
Color, B&W and Sepia-ish.
I picked three photographs, and edited it in each of the categories.
So here you are, enjoy them and let me know what you like best!

Photograph 1: My favorite is the sepia photograph.

Photograph 2: My favorite is the black and white photograph.

Photograph 3: My favorite is the color photograph.

So there you have it! A productive day to say the least. I'm learning to like black and white photography more and more, which was the whole purpose of choosing this month's Spark.

Today was recovery day. I'm horribly sick and I just wanted to spend time with my family and Joe. Which is exactly what I got. (: Then I drove back home to Logan, and Lizz made us friendship bracelets out of my old t-shirt. Whoooooo-hooooo for having a crafty roommate.

Today was the big day. Joe's band, Saint Peter, was playing at In The Venue in Salt Lake. And if you didn't know.. That's a pretty big deal. Lots of really big bands play there, and this was a really good opportunity for them. Anyway, so I left Logan at the CRACK of dawn to head down to Salt Lake. And this is what I got.. Beauty:

Driving that early in the morning was incredibly peaceful and extremely beautiful. It was the calm before the storm. Because today just got crazy.. These were all taken at the show:

Saint Peter sellin' merch. From left to right: Rob Dunn, Joe Maloy, Hayden Johnson & Matt Higgins.

Saint Peter playing on stage at In The Venue.

Joe Maloy; Lead vocalist, guitarist

Hayden Johnson; Back-up vocalist, bass guitarist, key boards, trumpet

Matt Higgins; Drummer

Rob Dunn; Bass guitarist

Overall, a very fantastic, tiring, lovely, musical day. And if you happen to want to look up Saint Peter, here's their Facebook page..

Tonight. Was. Fantastic.

And I know you want to know every single insignificant detail. So let me just tell you..

Tonight there was a free Mac Miller concert in Ogden as part of the Winter Dew Tour, and the whole week I was supa pumped to go with my friends. Then on Wednesday I realized it was also the night of "That Totally Awesome 80s Concert" which I happened to be performing in. So that raised a bit of a conflict... I decided to be a good student and all, and do the right thing, which was to sing in the 80s concert like I was supposed to.

I broke out my leg warmers and denim mini skirt, cut my shirt to fall over my shoulders, and put my hair in the highest ponytail possible. Right out of the 80s, baby. And I went to the concert, blah blah blah. Anyway, it ended up being the funnest (it's a word in my dictionary) thing of my life. By far the best concert I've ever been in. My parents, grandfather, and boyfriend all came to it and then took me out to dinner afterwards. Soooo fun. The only horrible thing was that I didn't get one photograph of the night's shananagans! ):

Later that night while I was packing up to spend the weekend at my parents' house, I realized I hadn't taken any photographs and just took a phone photo with the retro shirt I was wearing to bed. So what if that button-down is totally 70s instead of 80s? It's my blog, I can do whatever I want. (:

(And I promise I'm wearing spandex with that shirt, it just doesn't really look like it..)

I didn't have time to shoot anything today. Again.. ): But I did have a late night study sesh with a couple of my roommates. So no, I did not take the lovely photograph of myself. But it's all I really have for the day.

And sometimes I want to shave my head.. It's fine. (:

Mm.. I love when I have time to develop an idea I have and actually take some photographs that match that idea. Usually I think of something really great that I want to shoot and either don't have the time or the materials. Boo.. Anyway, I wore tights today.. And this is what I came up with.

A happy birthday to you, Bob. <3

Today was another mental health day. I was sick, missed classes again, and went to the doctor. So I stayed in and celebrated Bob Marley's birthday instead, ya know, hypothetically..

suuuuuuuuupeeeeeeeeeeeerbooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooowl!

Today was so fun! We had a little Superbowl party at our apartment with a ton of friends and food. I come from a family that never watched the game because it's on a Sunday. So it was definitely a new experience. Anyway, I got so caught up in all the excitement of making my daddy's famous nacho dip, watching the game and playing with friends that I totally spaced to take my photograph for the day. So I'm using one from last night..

I took this while Joe was sleeping in my bed and I was doing something homework related on the computer. He's cute.

Today was nice. Joe came up to Logan and took me to Cafe Rio. Mmmm.. (: After that we just laid around, listened to music, took photographs, and just joked around and fell in love over and over again until he had to go back to Bountiful.

Out of all of the photos we took, this is my favorite. I played around with saturation and temperature, and these are the two I came up with. A cooler version of a black & white photograph, and a warmer version of a color photograph.

[34/366]

Tonight we went to Poetry and a Beverage at the university. Po & a Bev is an event that includes listening to poetry or music and sipping on club soda. There is a strict hipster policy and the men are all beautiful. I would like to just sit at the side and soak up their beauty, but ya know, that would be too mainstream....

My roommate Lizz performed an original song that she wrote, and she did amazing. I loved taking photographs of her onstage, and honestly it just made me want to go to a bazillion shows so I could take more.

[33/366]

I have the most fantastic friends. Rachel, Me, Becca, Zoe & Lizz went to a "dating seminar" by David Coleman. That sounds totally lame, but it was SO fun. You should look up his stuff on YouTube. He is hilarious! After that we went to karaoke night at the Pizza Pie Cafe. Overall, such a fun night. Exactly what I needed to get me out of the slump I was in. Like I said before, I've got some pretty fantastic friends. (:

This photo is horrible quality. But we took it on someone's phone, so it'll have to do.

[32/366]

Today was a very bad day. I woke up and was so depressed. And if you know me, that's not a common occurrence..

One of my best friends that I've made up here in Logan got arrested and tried to commit suicide in jail. And it's all my fault... I literally could have prevented it. His mother called me during the middle of the night to tell me. And in the morning I realized it wasn't a dream. And on top of that, it hit me that my best friend in the whole wide world is leaving on his mission this summer, so he's not going to be here to hold me when things like this happen. He's not going to be here to kiss me on the forehead, or play music with me, or tell me he loves me.

So, I didn't go to class, I cancelled my speech, I skipped rugby conditioning and instead; ate a bagel, listened to music and cried myself into a coma.

Eventually, Joe came up to Logan and saved me from myself. He made me get out of my bed and he took me to dinner. He didn't pressure me to talk about anything, he was just there. Just there like he'll always be, even when he does leave on his mission.

So today was hell. Sorry that my first post about my actual life was so depressing... Haha. I promise that my life is really fun and I don't always just cry in my bed all day. Tomorrow will be better. Not just for the blog, but with everything. Because like I've said before, everything happens for a reason...

February's Spark

February's Spark is Black & White vs Color Photography. This month will mostly be Black & White photography, but I'm putting "vs Color" because I know sometime this month I will get bored and want a splash of color back in my life. I want to be able to play and experiment with saturation; and having a lot of color, a little color, and no color in a photo. Also, I think it'll be interesting to put up some of my photography in both black & white, and color, and compare them. So, that's it. I'm keeping it really open this month because I hated the strict format I had last month. Enjoy!
